Reach Community Grocers Celebrates 1 Year Trading Anniversary!

This September saw Reach Community Grocers celebrate their 1 year anniversary of providing affordable groceries to those struggling with the cost of living crisis. Based on Pride Park, a stone throw from the stadium, the grocery store has been working with companies such as Birds Bakery and Alstom to provide affordable groceries to those who regularly slip through the cracks of government help – a store open to everyone where no referral is needed.

Each week, customers can do 3 weekly shops where they can get a bag of groceries worth £25 for only £6. With plenty of variety, and the ability to choose items, the store has proven incredibly popular with over 575 members regularly coming to do a shop in the store. Now celebrating their 1 year anniversary, the store has great things on the horizon and Gillian Davel, the store manager, is excited for the future.

The store was initially set up by Reach Conference Centre, a charity pouring it’s conference centre profits back into local projects, and the shop has gone from success to success. With funding from companies such as Alstom and Cross Country Trains, the store has had the backing of local businesses and is proving to be a much needed entity for the people of Derby.

2 in 5 children in Derby live in poverty and Reach Conference Centre is proud to have created a store that helps to tackle this. All profits from events bookings go back into the charity, and the community grocers is one of those projects that has thrived under the donations. There are going to be exciting things happening in the future for this store.
